Our specialist approach to SEMH education

At See Her Potential, we believe every young girl deserves a space to dream big, build confidence, and feel supported—no matter their circumstances.

Over the past year, we have focused on bringing our empowering workshops and performances to specialised settings such as SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) schools and specialised eating disorder hospital units.

These unique environments require tailored approaches, and we are proud of the impact we’ve been able to create in these spaces.

Why SEMH Schools and Eating Disorder Units?

SEMH schools and eating disorder units cater to some of the most vulnerable young people in our communities. Many of the girls in these settings face challenges that include:

  • Feeling isolated as one of the few female students in male-dominated classrooms.

  • Struggling with low self-esteem and confidence.

  • Managing the effects of bullying, exclusion, or mental health challenges.

These environments often have small class sizes, ranging from 5 to 20 students, providing a more intimate setting where our workshops can have a profound, individual impact.

Our Approach

We know that a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work in these specialised settings. That’s why we adapt our sessions to meet the unique needs of the students and the school environment.

Here’s how we tailor our work:

  • Highly Trained Facilitators: Our facilitators are experienced professionals who have the skills to adapt to the diverse needs of each student. They are trained to recognise and respond to a wide range of emotional, social, and educational needs, ensuring that every participant feels supported and included.

  • One-on-One Engagement: During our workshops, we ensure every girl receives personal attention. Our facilitators create a safe and supportive environment, encouraging students to share their thoughts and aspirations.

  • Accessible and Adaptive: During these sessions we take plenty of breaks, and adapt our timings to suit students needs, sometimes we join in with game time to reward students for their engagement during the session.

  • Interactive Activities: Our sessions include a range of journaling exercises, confidence-boosting tips, and practical tools to help students overcome anxiety and step out of their comfort zones. Activities like “dream your bravest dream” inspire students to envision futures beyond their current circumstances.

The impact

One of the most significant challenges we’ve encountered is the isolation experienced by girls in SEMH schools, where they may be the only female student in a class of 10 boys. Teachers have told us that these girls are often “picked on” and seen as “easy targets,” which takes a toll on their self-confidence. However, this very challenge has underscored the importance of our work.

Teachers in these settings have jumped at the chance to implement our sessions, sharing overwhelmingly positive feedback. Many have remarked on the immediate transformation in their students’ confidence levels, with some schools already booking us for repeat visits.

The impact of our sessions is clear:

  • Girls leave our workshops feeling more empowered and confident.

  • Teachers report improved engagement and a boost in students' self-esteem.

  • Students learn practical tools they can use in both their personal and academic lives.

For us, the most rewarding feedback often comes directly from the girls themselves and the relationships we build with them.
